Professor in Communication and Visual Design at Politecnico di Milano
Biography
Associate Professor at Politecnico di Milano, he teaches at the Faculty of Design in the Communication Design Master degree. He has been visiting lecturer at Universidad de Malaga and The Royal Institute of Art Stockholm (KKH), and contributed to several Master courses at Politecnico di Milano, Bocconi University, Domus Academy.
Member of the board at the PhD in Design (Politecnico di Milano) and head of the Communication Design research group within the Design department, his research activity focuses on the development of data, information and knowledge visualization tools and methods to support decision making processes in complex (social) systems. He participated to several research projects, funded by EU, the national Ministry for Research and Education and other private and public foundations and organizations.
Paolo Ciuccarelli is co-founder of the Interuniversity Centre for Social Network Analysis and Knowledge Visualization and member of the Interuniversity Research Centre on Public Services (CRISP), with a specific assignment on Data Visualization.
He founded the DensityDesign Research Lab where he currently holds the position of scientific director. The research activity of the Lab focuses on the visual representation of complex social, organizational and urban phenomena; it includes theoretical and epistemological reflections on visualizations and analyses of their cognitive underpinnings, in addition to the development of large frameworks for data visualization and ad-hoc solutions for speculative narration.
The DensityDesign Lab is currently collaborating in research projects with the Stanford Humanities Centre, the MediaLab of Science Po (Paris) and the Interuniversity Research Centre on Public Services (CRISP) at Milano Bicocca.
